The Economic Committee of the UN and the FAO Forestry Division just published a statement describing in detail developments in the global timber market during 2009.
This report emphasizes that the past year was the worst since the oil crisis of 1970 regarding the consumption of wood in the world. Since late 2009 the beginnings of a recovery is visible and growing stronger.
It is further stated that the European region is at a pivotal time and will see a profound structural changes in this sector in the years to come.
